The human life is very long which creates burden on the families. This lead to elder abuse and neglect. Depression in old age is quite complex. Low income is also a reason that creates malnutrition among older individuals. Sleep disorders and disruption in sleep patterns can lead to more problems.
Constitutional Provisions
Under directive principle of State policy, article 41 states that “The State shall within the limits of its economic capacity and development, make effective provision for securing the right to work, to education and to public assistance in cases of unemployment, old age, sickness and disablement, and in other cases of undeserved want.” Also in 2007, The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act was enacted to ensure need based maintenance for parents and senior citizens and their welfare.
