The term TET is known as the Teacher Eligibility Test. It is the minimum qualification required in India for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher for Class I to VIII. TET is conducted sepately both by the central and state governments of India.
Teacher Eligibility Test
In 2011, Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) was introduced in India. TET exam may help to improve the teaching standards in India in primary and upper primary schools. Now, This test is mandatory for teaching jobs in Indian government schools. Exam is based on NCERT. In Teacher Eligibility Test, There are two papers
- for teachers of Classes I to V
- for teachers of Classes VI to VIII

TET Exam Eligibility
People with professional teaching qualifications, including the B.T.C (D.El.Ed), B.Ed, and B.El.Ed, are eligible to take the test. Candidates must score over 60% to pass.
Types of TET Exam
- On Class Basis
- For Class 1 to 5
- For Class 6 to 8
- On Government Basis
- Central TET
- State TET
Both TET exam is based on NCERT Pattern. Successful candidates become eligible to apply for recruitment as teachers of Classes I to VIII.
Objective of Teacher Eligibility Exam
Teachers Eligibility Test was made a necessary prerequisite for appointment as a teacher to meet the following objectives:
- To establish a national benchmark and standards for teacher quality and recruitment.
- To encourage further improvement in the performance standards of teacher education institutions and their students.
- To communicate the Government’s particular focus on teacher quality.

Central TET
CTET Candidates must score a minimum of 60% to become CTET Qualified, and the certificate is valid for seven years. CTET Qualified candidates become eligible to apply for recruitment as teachers of Classes I to VIII in schools under the Central Government.

State-wise TET
Candidates must score a minimum of 60% to become stateTET Qualified, and the certificate is valid for seven years. stateTET Qualified candidates become eligible to apply for recruitment as teachers of Classes I to VIII in schools under the State Government.
UPTET
UPTET is popularly known as the Uttar Pradesh teacher’s eligibility test. It is a state-level exam conducted once a year. Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB) conducts the UPTET exam.
Rajasthan TET
The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) organizes the Rajasthan Teacher Eligibility Test (RTET) for teachers in Rajasthan state. Teacher Eligibility Tests are conducted twice a year, for two levels, Level 1 and Level 2.
